Constructed Romance

Constructed Romance is the first chapter in a journey of discovery into the meanings of a city.

I chose Paris because of its powerful collective association with romance. After exploring the different places, stories and customs that have contributed to shaping this image of Paris, I became fascinated by the powerful yet vulnerable role of time, attention and specific choices in allowing such a feeling to become almost taken for granted.
 

The paintings in Constructed Romance form new spaces in which this interplay of different elements can be experienced in a different way. The series invites the viewer to discover, from their own perspective, the quiet meaning of romantic Paris.
