Constructed Romance

Capitals Series

Constructed Romance is the first part of a series of paintings exploring our human need to create meaning in a world that is changing ever faster.

The title refers to the way romance, beauty, and significance are not fixed qualities, but constructed perceptions—shaped by memory, imagination, and collective narratives. We attach meaning to places, objects, people, and cultural symbols. Through these shared and personal projections, they become carriers of ideas such as identity, belonging, nostalgia, and permanence—while remaining fundamentally fragile and subject to change.

Each painting begins with research into a specific subject, focusing not only on its appearance, but on the cultural and emotional layers that give it significance. Many of these subjects reflect something we wish to preserve, while revealing the instability of that desire.

These layers are translated into an abstract, organic visual language inspired by processes of growth, movement, and transformation. Rather than depicting, the works aim to evoke what lies beneath perception.

Constructed Romance invites a slower way of looking—one that considers how meaning is formed, projected, and experienced in a world shaped by constant change.
