About Lindsey van der Vorm

Lindsey van der Vorm is a Dutch artist. Her practice develops through ongoing series exploring how people create and attach meaning to the world around them. Through research and visual transformation, her paintings translate these ideas into a visual language that moves between structure and intuition.

"I am interested in how meaning develops over time through attention, memory and projection. My paintings are built from countless small organic forms that together create rhythms, relationships and moments of focus, reflecting the way meaning gradually emerges through experience."

Practice

Each work begins with observation and research. Lindsey investigates how places, objects and cultural symbols acquire meaning over time, and why certain subjects continue to resonate across generations. Working in ongoing series, she explores the stories, associations and collective memories that shape our relationship with the world. Through a process of reduction and transformation, these findings are translated into paintings that move between structure and intuition, allowing meaning to emerge gradually rather than through direct representation.

Visual Language

The visual language within the paintings develops through repetition, layering and the accumulation of small organic forms. Rather than depicting a subject directly, these forms function as carriers of atmosphere, memory and association.

The compositions invite slow looking. Details, relationships and rhythms reveal themselves over time, reflecting the way meaning is built through experience rather than immediate recognition.

Background

With a background in Communication and Multimedia Design and Information Science, Lindsey developed an understanding of how structures influence interpretation and meaning. This analytical foundation informs her practice and operates as a quiet framework beneath a process that is primarily visual, intuitive and research-driven.
